Another month has arrived and I've been doing the two step
one foot to lay the seeds for the upcoming weeks
and one foot just taking care of business.
Over the next few weeks Im expecting some new and exciting
news to arrive business wise that will take the Peter Austin Noto
Show Business machine to a different level.

No air time on SNL so far this year, still 4 more months and were dry deserts end

Dear Peter,
I would like to share two things with you this month: First my latest story involving a well-known Hollywood teacher, and second, a free gift for you at the end of this letter!
A few weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to take a Casting Director course via a "prestigious" teacher in LA. This teacher is one of those enigmas who has been around for years, and people pay big bucks to be in their class. (I will refer to them as "Chris"). Here's how it went:
After a dismissive phone call, "Chris" agreed to meet me in three days, BUT FIRST - I must watch eighteen of their You Tube videos, in addition to seven of their on-line interviews. I lost track of how many times I watched them boast that they were the "first" to do this and the "first" to do that. (It reminded me of an incident from two years ago, where someone implied that I had

stolen their postcard ideas, because they had thought of it "first". Seriously?) Halfway through this viewing marathon of "Chris", I became distracted by their permanently happy expression. What happened? Facial fillers? . . . maybe an eye job?
The day of our meeting came, and I became nervous, then anxious, then freaked out! My acceptance into this course was based solely on Chris' opinion of me! I was about to be dissected, scrutinized and judged. Breathe. I showed up 2 minutes early, but had to wait until they finished a phone call. They immediately gave me commercial copy, and let me rehearse. I saw that their latest book and training CD's were conveniently placed on the center table. Experience told me that no matter what I did, this "interview" was about how well I could take their direction. Ha - I can do that! My goal was to meet casting directors, not be their student, right? They used my audition as an opportunity to impress me with their "secrets to acting for the camera". They stood and smiled inches from my face - I could feel their breath - as they enjoyed their own micro-directing. Standing so close to me, I kept thinking, What happened to your face? Given that distraction, I was pretty awesome!
After an assistant dropped off Chris' dogs, the focus turned to my resume. They jumped straight to my training. Nothing else seemed to matter. "Oh, I don't like him!" they snapped, when I revealed who
"Scooz me!"
I was currently studying with. Oh, now I get it - Chris needs to be number one! I detected a faint smell of desperation in the air. Or was it the dogs?
They gave me their evaluation: Although they had one more applicant to interview, I was definitely first choice - no promises. In the meantime, I should consider the benefit of signing up for one of their other classes. They determined that I could use more training. They said, however, that I was good enough to skip their first two levels! Goshes, really? But before I left, could they show me something on the computer? Now what? I sat beside them, shoulder to shoulder, as they showed me their website/newsletter. They unveiled their teaching staff, their online videos, and tried to wow me with their latest hire. "Can I sign you up for our newsletter?" Okayyyy. Then they had me log onto my Facebook account so I could "like" their page right then and there! Note to self: Unsubscribe. Unlike.When this was done, they turned to me with their pulled eyelids and Restylane-filled cheeks, and s l o w l y said, "I'm glad I met you . . . I like you." Common courtesy yelled at me to like them back, but . . . I just sat there and smiled.
VERDICT: I did not get accepted.
There is an illusion of hierarchy that certain people/organizations use to either let actors know they are not good enough, or while throwing them crumbs of approval, turn them into lifetime disciples. Every step of the way, my gut screamed that this was BS, but I thought it was just my fear of rejection. This really disturbed me. I kept asking myself, Why did this opportunity - so perfectly timed, so perfectly set up - come my way when I didn't get in? Why? Finally, after days of sitting with it, I got it: As long as there was a tiny piece of me that held self-doubt, I was going to run into these types of people again and again. Clearly, I needed to really learn it. It wasn't fear that caused my upset - it was ignoring my inner guidance. When we're aligned with our inner guidance, we know truth. When we ignore it, we get sucked into illusion.
Open the door to your inner wisdom.
