NEC is committed to bringing an American Hockey League minor league team to the facility. And Mangano said that, subject to National Hockey League
approval, the Islanders are scheduled to play four regular-season
and two preseason games, and hold practice and autograph sessions, at the renovated arena.
“That will show that we can host a game here,”
he said when asked if the Islanders could ever return to the arena,
which is being downsized to a seating capacity of 13,000 for hockey.
“Stay tuned for what occurs after that…who knows what the future holds?”
