Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew ראש השנה, literally "head [of] the year"), is the Jewish New Year. It is the first of the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora'im ("Days of Awe") which usually occur in the early autumn of the Northern Hemisphere. Rosh Hashanah is a two-day celebration, which begins on the first day of Tishrei. The day is believed to be the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, and their first actions toward the realization of mankind's role in God's world. Rosh Hashanah customs include sounding the shofar (a hollowed-out ram's horn) and eating symbolic foods such as apples dipped in honey to evoke a "sweet new year". ♥ Shanah Tovah♥ rip jj |

ends Tuesday, September 15 at nightfall http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/rosh-hashanah-2015-the-jewish-new-year-begins_55f36590e4b077ca094f3f14 Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is celebrated in 2015 from sundown on Sept. 13 to the evening of Sept. 15. In the Hebrew calendar it falls on 1 and 2 Tishrei 5775.
Though Rosh Hashanah literally means "head of the year," the holiday actually takes place on the first two days of the Hebrew month of Tishrei, which is the seventh month on the Hebrew calendar. This is because Rosh Hashanah, one of four new years in the Jewish year, is considered the new year of people, animals and legal contracts. In the Jewish oral tradition, Rosh Hashanah marks the completion of the creation of the world.

It occurs on the first and second days of the Jewish month of Tishri, which is the seventh month of the religious year but the first month of the civil year. It also marks the start of Yamim Noraim (high holidays), which continues with Yom Kippur on the 10th day of Tishri.
